Il 27 maggio 1980, un videoclip dei DEVO che eseguono live SMART PATROL / MR DNA fu trasmesso per la prima volta su The Old Grey Whistle Test, programma televisivo musicale della BBC, messo in onda dal 21 settembre 1971 al 1º gennaio 1988 sulle frequenze della BBC Two. La trasmissione era incentrata sulle esibizioni dal vivo di artisti affermati ed emergenti nell’ambito della musica rock.

La traccia SMART PATROL / MR DNA, con la sua esplosiva intro techno (Alan Myers è una drum machine vivente in questo video!), fa parte dell’album ‘Duty Now For The Future’ ed è stata per alcuni anni in scaletta durante i live set dei DEVO. Secondo quanto affermato da Gerald Casale, essa riguarda “the triumph of the altruistic gene over petty self interest”.
