10,000 Maniacs: 35 anni fa usciva “In My Tribe”

Il 27 luglio 1987 i 10,000 Maniacs pubblicavano  In My Tribe, il loro secondo album in studio e il primo ad ottenere successo su larga scala.

John Lombardo, partner di Natalie Merchant nei precedenti album, aveva lasciato i 10,000 Maniacs nel 1986 e In My Tribe vide la Merchant iniziare a collaborare con gli altri membri, in particolare con Rob Buck.

“There is a darker side to the band that never had been completely, thoroughly shown,”  disse Natalie Merchant al Los Angeles Times nell’estate del 1989, pochi mesi dopo l’uscita del quarto album dei 10,000 Maniacs Blind Man’s Zoo. “It was something that had to be in a way exorcised and then we could go on to something else. On In My Tribe, there was that separation of lyrics going in one direction and the music going in another direction, one being very jovial and the other one being in some points very violent, other points very melancholy.”
