Addio a Lee Konitz, il sassofonista jazz che aveva suonato anche con Miles Davis

Un altro lutto nel mondo della musica a causa di complicazioni dovute al Covid-19: ieri mercoledì 15 aprile si è spento all’età di 92 anni Lee Konitz, storico sassofonista jazz.

The well-educated musician must have the information from the music first of all, and then find out what it all means the names and the rules and axiom is. All that adds up to a well-balanced musical education. We start out playing by ear, learning everything we can, and finally ending up playing by ear again. You just absorb it, and it becomes part of your ability to perceive from then on. 

Nato a Chicago il 13 ottobre 1927, aveva alle spalle una carriera straordinaria, fatta di collaborazioni di altissimo livello fin dagli anni ’40, quando ebbe l’opportunità di suonare con Miles Davis per le registrazioni dell’album Birth of the Cool; collaborò anche con Michel Petrucciani, Stan Kenton, Stan Kenton, Charles Mingus e Bill Evans, e con gli italiani Enrico Rava, Franco Cerri ed Enrico Pieranunzi.

Nel 2007 ha inciso insieme a Riccardo Arrighini The soprano sax albums: standards, con Bollani nel 2003 Suite for Paolo, con Franco D’Andrea nel 2001 Inside Rodgers.
